As the fall out from Hashicorp’s rug-pull of a license change to Terraform continues to unfold the community has done what many of us saw as the most logical response: fork the Terraform project and place it either under the CNCF the Linux Foundation. The later has now happened with great support.
OpenTofu (formerly OpenTF, a fork of Terraform 1.5.5) already has a number of organizations that are willing to dedicate full time effort to continuing the project. This has truly been the open source community coming together as a while to ensure the future survival of the community.
As for me and my projects; as soon as the binaries are available I will be making the switch within days. What about you, what do you think of this recent trend of companies pulling un-announced license changes after gaining significant market share on the back of community effort?
